Brooklyn Trio NIGHT POWERS to Release Debut Album The Hand of the Thief

With the release of their album “The Hand of the Thief”, Night Powers has created a complete, cinematic world of haunted mysticism, black magic, ritual horror and sexual menace. They spin a tale of one man’s possession of The Hand of Glory and his descent into greed, destruction, false redemption, and ultimately brutal justice.

Their sound marries the brooding croon of NICK CAVE and the uneasy mystery of DAVID LYNCH with churning organs, shimmering psych guitar and ghostly echoes of noir glamour. Inspired by legendary 1960s pairings such as LEE HAZLEWOOD & NANCY SINATRA and SERGE GAINSBOURG & JANE BIRKIN, Natalya Krimgold’s ghostly soprano and Rob Viola’s quavering baritone trade off throughout the album, spinning both sides of The Thief’s story. The decadent melodies from Inbar Kishoni on organ and piano fuse all these elements together with elegant counterpoint.

Recorded by Rob Viola and mixed by Charles Burst (PSYCHIC ILLS, CRYSTAL STILTS, DAVID GRUBBS) at the Seaside Lounge, Brooklyn, NY.

Night Powers came together in 2013 after Rob Viola and Inbar Kishoni decided to take action on a long list of shared influences and a four-year conversation about playing music together. Viola is an electronic composer and a former drummer for Haywood, The Red and the Black, Joey Sweeney, Matt Pond PA, Sackville, Carter Little, Ciao Bella and bassist for Cherubino and Mister Coffee Nerves. Kishoni got her start playing keyboards in Denver’s Mannequin Makeout, alongside former bandmates Brittany Gould (Caldera Lakes, Married in Berdichev, Still Soft Recordings) and Lucas Johannes (Bad Weather California, American Culture, Bleak Plaza, Hot Congress Records). In 2014, Natalya Krimgold, a classically trained vocalist and theater / film actress, joined the group and finalized the line-up.
